Vista Nova auction goes online
School trying to expand its support base so that specialised needs of learners are met
A BID OR BUY auction beginning on Monday will see the most important annual fundraising drive for Vista Nova School in Rondebosch, going online for the first time.
The Vista Nova Auction, organised by the Friends of Vista Nova, has had many guises over the past 20 years. It has evolved and grew from humble beginnings, with a handful of auction items, into the jewel in the crown of the school’s fundraising drive.
Friends of Vista Nova is a registered NPO based at the school. Its sole purpose is to raise funds on an ongoing basis for the daily running of this specialised school, so that the needs of all learners can be met. Vista Nova School is unique as it caters for learners with special needs from across the Peninsula. Unlike traditional community schools, Vista Nova assists lear ners from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
The diversity of the learners’ backg rounds is transcended only by the commonality of their desire to overcome their individual disabilities and barriers to learning.
The school is committed to giving those pupils a high standard of education, as well as excellent supportive therapies. In order to fulfil this commitment, additional funding is essential as Vista Nova does not turn away children who are economically disadvantaged.
After many years of successfully hosting the auction at the school’s premises, this year will see the event spread its online wings for the first time with the support of the Bid or Buy auction website.
Friends of Vista Nova chairwoman Jackie de la Porte says that the time is right for the auction to continue its evolution into the 21st century.
“By hosting the event at the school, we built up some wonderful support from a group of extremely generous individuals. For the auction to grow and stay relevant, we needed to take it to the next level. We felt that taking it online was the logical next step towards expanding our support base and ensuring that additional funding is generated for the school.”
