The popularity of the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year award is evident in the annual increase in the volume of entries. This year cabernet sauvignon was the category contested and a judging panel headed by Dave Hughes and including John Avery from Bristol sniffed, swirled, sipped and spat their way through entries to reach consensus: Coenie Snyman is the 2009 winner for his 2007 Rust en Vrede cabernet, described as “deep and rich with excellent potential”.
