Road clo­sures for big week

The City of Cape Town is putting the fin­ish­ing touches to its plans for Fri­day’s fes­tiv­i­ties. The events around the fi­nal draw at the con­ven­tion cen­tre and for the Long Street street party will mean a num­ber of road clo­sures be­fore, dur­ing and af­ter the fes­tiv­i­ties.

“To min­imise traf­fic dis­rup­tions, Cape Town traf­fic ser­vices will be on duty to re­di­rect mo­torists and pedes­tri­ans,” said Cape Town traf­fic spokes­woman Merle Lourens.

Fore­shore: from 9am on Mon­day there will be in­ter­mit­tent road clo­sures in the area of lower Long, Coen Steytler and Cul­li­nan streets. Th­ese are likely to con­tinue un­til 5am on Mon­day De­cem­ber 7.

Long Street: There will be a par­tial clo­sure of Long Street from Buitensin­gel to Buiten Street, from 1pm on Mon­day to 5am next Mon­day. Pedes­tri­ans will have ac­cess to pave­ments.

Up­per CBD: From 1am on Fri­day un­til noon on Satur­day there will be road clo­sures in the area bound by Queen Vic­to­ria, Green, Buitensin­gel, Loop and Dorp streets.

On-street stop­ping or park­ing will not be per­mit­ted in Long Street from Buitensin­gel to Buiten Street from 6pm on Wed­nes­day un­til noon on Satur­day.
