Neville taunts Liverpool

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - SPORT -

GARY Neville believes Liverpool deserved to be relegated to the Europa League this week.

Liverpool slumped out of the Champions League despite winning 1-0 at Debrecen after Group E rivals Fiorentina beat Lyon.

The United captain, often agitator-in-chief when it comes to his club’s bitter north-west rivals, said that Liverpool’s perfor mances were not good enough.

Neville said: “As a team, you get what you deserve, don’t you? We are where we are because we deserve to be there and it’s the same with Liverpool. We went out ourselves a few years back. They just haven’t performed well enough in the Champions League.”

United are the only other English side to have failed to progress from the group stages in the competition’s current format, when they finished behind Villarreal, Benfica and Lille in 2005. – Daily Mail
