Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - PROPERTY -

A RARE opportunity has arisen to acquire a stake in Fairhill Nature Reserve on the Cape Overberg coast, close to Hermanus.

The 164ha property has direct access to 17km of pristine private beachfront on the adjacent Walker Bay Conservancy. Just four of the six share blocks are for sale through Pam Golding Properties.

The listed price of R4.95 million includes unlimited access to the entire reserve and the opportunity to build a low-impact private home, subject to architectural guidelines.

These lean towards a typical Overberg far m-style home with modern influences. Options include high-volume living areas, wraparound verandas, screed and stone definitions, and expansive glass to maximise the exquisite views and natural light.

Although these guidelines will be managed by an independent architectural firm, buyers may involve their own architects on the layout and design. Zoning restrictions limit the size of the homes to 250m and the guidelines will ensure the built environment blends seamlessly into the surrounding fynbos.

PGP’s area manager for greater Hermanus, Adrian Kuiper, says the farm is 20 minutes’ drive from Hermanus and five minutes from Gansbaai. It has access to a private tarred airstrip just north of Kleinbaai.

“This is an oppor tunity for nature lovers to live in complete privacy in a spacious and protected e nvi r o nment, wit h o ut s t a ndi ng coastal and mountain views,” he says. “The current two owners will each retain a share block in the property company, and are offering the remaining four to like-minded investors. Each owner will enjoy allyear-round access to the property and as members of the greater conservancy will have traversing rights over the Walker Bay Conservancy, with access to the private beach.”

Fairhill has 32 resident Cape eland with several smaller buck such as duiker and steenbok, as well as abundant bird life.

Limited levies will apply to maintain estate fences and fire-breaks, and the possibility of communal gardening and security services will be decided among the new owners.
