Get your act together before 2010 tourists arrive

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - COMMENT -

I WAS recently in Cape Town and was appalled at the bad service from the restaurants at the wine farms.

Someone said to me last year Cape Town was called the “Mother City” because you have to wait nine months for everything.

Come on guys, you’d better improve if you want to impress. God knows what the foreigners are going to tell their friends and family after the World Cup.

Franschhoek has stunning scenery, but everything else was disappointing. We went to the wine farm, no greeting just a long wait for a sour student (I presume) to decant without enthusiasm, no chance to discuss the wine (or look at the bottle).

The grounds had tables and chairs with an umbrella not opened and it was 42°C. This is a total rip-off, lacking in atmosphere or service.

The restaurant there was a total disappointment and the drinks came after the food. We were served by a typically moronic waiter who could not remember to bring us an ashtray, even after being asked five times.

Get your act together because it will tell in the future. People won’t come back.
