Dig­i­tal pi­rates face new French law

PARIS: France’s cul­ture min­is­ter, Fred­eric Mit­ter­rand, says the of­fi­cial hunt for peo­ple sus­pected of il­le­gal down­load­ing will be­gin in spring when the first writ­ten warn­ings will be sent to al­leged vi­o­la­tors of a new law against dig­i­tal piracy.

The French Cul­ture Min­istry es­ti­mates 1 000 French in­ter­net users a day could be taken off­line un­der the law passed last year.
