Roddick out of the Davis Cup
BRISBANE: Andy Roddick has pulled out of this year’s Davis Cup competition but could make a comeback for the United States in the future.
Roddick says he’s “not retiring from Davis Cup”.
The United States plays Serbia in Belgrade in the first round from March 5-7.
The 27-year-old Roddick spoke yesterday after beating Richard Gasquet of France in the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International.
Roddick injured his left knee in October. The top American on the ATP World Tour said he doesn’t want to risk damaging the knee by changing court surfaces frequently.
Roddick has played 22 Davis Cup matches, including the 2007 final win over Russia, and has a 31-11 record in singles. – Sapa-AP
