He is picked for their third match against Colom­bia and scores from a long-range free kick, his first goal for Eng­land.

Re­ceives a red card against Ar­gentina in the sec­ond round and is blamed for Eng­land’s elim­i­na­tion.

In Eng­land’s next match, against Trinidad and Tobago, Becks is named Man of the Match and he then scores from a free kick in the sec­ond round match against Equador, giv­ing Eng­land a 1-0 win.

In the quar­ter-fi­nals, against Por­tu­gal, Beck­ham is sub­sti­tuted fol­low­ing an in­jury shortly af­ter half-time and the Eng­land team go on to lose the match on penal­ties.
