Organise your paperwork

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - PERSONAL FINANCE -

Filing may be an F word, but if you do not have a rudimentary filing system, you will struggle to find accounts that you need to query, documents you need for insurance claims and the information you need to complete your tax return.

In addition, your family may have difficulty finding your will and life policies should they need to.

Set aside a safe place for all your important documents.

A concertina file may provide a quick way to organise regular bills after opening the mail. At the end of the year, bundle the bills together in a file for that year and store them, remembering that documents you need to complete your tax return should be kept in an easily accessible folder. If you receive your bills and statements electronically, make sure you have an electronic filing system and that you back up the stored data regularly.
