HATCH­ING PETE:

★★ Fam­ily com­edy. Pete (Ja­son Dol­ley, above) be­comes a high school hero af­ter se­cretly be­ing the school mas­cot to help out his best friend Clea­tus (Mitchel Musso). Clea­tus has been un­able to carry on the fam­ily tra­di­tion of be­ing the Hondo High School mas­cot be­cause he’s al­ler­gic to the cos­tume, so he qui­etly re­cruits the painfully shy Pete for the job. Re­luc­tantly agree­ing, with the strict un­der­stand­ing that their pact will re­main a se­cret, Pete dons the Chicken cos­tume and be­fore long he’s got the whole school cheer­ing. ★★ ½ A com­edy/scifi/ad­ven­ture. So­cial out­casts Vir­gil (Ja­son Dol­ley) and the ge­nius Char­lie (Luke Ben­ward) are high school se­niors who team up with metal-shop loner Zeke (Ni­cholas Braun) to build a time ma­chine so they can right var­i­ous high­school in­jus­tices and save oth­ers like them from hu­mil­i­a­tion. But when the trio’s ad­ven­tures are no­ticed by the FBI, they learn that fool­ing with the timeline has made the whole space-time con­tin­uum shaky, lead­ing to a worm­hole that could swal­low the planet.
