Chester’s close relative nabbed for police stabbing
A CLOSE relative of rugby hero Chester Williams was arrested for allegedly stabbing a policeman in the face outside a popular pool hall yesterday.
Details remained sketchy, but police spokesman Andre Traut confirmed that the 18-year-old had been arrested for stabbing a policeman with a knife.
The young man, who cannot be named until he appears in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, was also injured and is in hospital.
The police have refused to divulge how he was injured or to reveal the the extent of his injuries.
Traut said the police were called to Stones in Table View, a popular pool hall, yesterday morning, to deal with an altercation in the parking lot.
Traut said he was not going to “sensationalise” the incident just because of the teenager’s relationship to Williams, a 1995 Rugby World Cup hero.
Traut said they regarded any assault on a police officer as a serious matter. However, the policeman had not been seriously injured and had been released from hospital after treatment.
