Passengers react to fare increase

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - NEWS -

WE ASKED commuters around the city what they thought of the latest increase in Golden Arrow bus fares.

There were responses.

Linda Lawo of Khayelitsha: “The bus tickets right now are way too expensive. How am I going to send my children to school with the little money I

mixed have? I’ve thought that travelling by bus would be cheaper, but I no longer think that is true. However, I’ll bear with the increased prices and use the buses because people who use trains experience more problems than we do.”

Adronel de Villiers of Parklands: “I wasn’t even aware that they had raised their prices, it took me by surprise. We are out of the recession but the effects are still there; they should’ve been more thoughtful about this.”

Mpumzi George of Khwezi: “I think the price hike is fair, it is a reasonable amount to me given that I earn quite a noticeable sum. But I hope they use it to upgrade their infrastructure. Their buses are in a terrible state.”

Thabo Ratsidi of Table View: “The fares are not that high; I think I can afford to buy the tickets. However, I don’t see why they have to up it so much because Table View is not that far from the city. If there’s another increase then I’ll be forced to use a taxi.”
