Spe­cial court has first cases

CAPE TOWN’S spe­cial World Cup Mag­is­trate’s Court dealt with its first three cases this week, in­clud­ing a theft from a Ja­panese tourist in a po­lice sta­tion, po­lice said on Thurs­day.

The theft took place on Tues­day at Cape Town Cen­tral po­lice sta­tion in the city cen­tre, po­lice head of 2010 op­er­a­tions in the Western Cape, Ma­jor-Gen­eral Rob­bie Roberts, said.

Po­lice had used closed-cir­cuit tele­vi­sion cam­eras to iden­tify the sus­pect, a woman, who was ar­rested and fined R5 000 or 12 months, sus­pended for five years by the court.

Two other cases of theft from tourists were still un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion and the court had re­leased both ac­cused on bail. – Sapa
