0ST PETERSBURG: Radical Russian artists painted a giant penis on a drawbridge in central St Petersburg ahead of a meeting that was the Russian answer to the World Economic Forum, police said.

S i x t y - f ive met r e s long and 27m across, the light-coloured phallus glistened against the capital’s skyline when the bridge was drawn up to let ships pass.

The erect-looking penis stood beside the local headquarters of the FSB, successor to the KGB.

Politically-minded art collective Voina, or War, said they drew the graffiti on Monday to protest against the heightened security measures expected at the Inter national Economic Forum, held this week in St Petersburg, the hometown of both Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Unsanctioned political art or public messages in the form of graffiti and painting are extremely rare in Russia. – Reuters
