Wheelchairs for city’s beaches
THE CITY of Cape Town says it will make beach-friendly wheelchairs available at ten of its beaches this festive season.
“At least 3.5 percent of the city’s residents are disabled and it is important that they enjoy easy access to Cape Town’s beautiful beaches,” it said in a statement yesterday.
The lightweight aluminium wheelchairs can roll across sand, be used as beach lounge chairs, and be pushed into open water for swimming. The chairs will be at Clifton Fourth, Muizenberg, Mnandi, Camps Bay, Bikini, Strandfontein, Silwerstroom, Llandudno, Fish Hoek and Gordon’s Bay until the end of March. – Sapa
