Whites experience the least crime – Idasa

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - NEWS - ANDISIWE MAKINANA

DESPITE white South African Brandon Huntley feeling so persecuted by black criminals that he had to seek refuge in Canada last year, white people experienced the least crime, compared to other race groups in the country.

This is according to a survey by democracy institute Idasa’s Afrobarometer, which found that the experience and fear of crime was “actually lowest among whites”.

Whites were subjected to less crime than other population groups and fear of crime had declined among whites, while it had increased for other race groups. Idasa’s survey of 2 400 people in 2008 found significantly fewer whites (21 percent) than black poeple (35 percent) expressed fearing crime always, many or several times in the past year.
