Pain meds on hold

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - NEWS -

ADCOCK Ingram has suspended sales of dextropropoxyphene (DPP)-containing medicines, pending official notification from the Medicines Control Council, which has resolved that it be withdrawn from the South African market, a company statement said yesterday.

Earlier, a Fin24 report said the company had withdrawn the painkiller, whose brand names include Synap Forte, Lentogesic and Doxyfene.

However, Adcock Ingram said it had not withdrawn the medication yet, just suspended promotion and sales, and would alert the market further once it received formal notification from the MCC.

“Adcock Ingram has not yet received formal notification from the MCC and will wait for such notification before making a decision on whether or not to withdraw its DPP-containing medicines,” the statement read. – Sapa
