Pace set to be No1 in Europe
BY HER OWN high standards, a third round 74 was not what South African golfer Lee-Anne Pace might have been hoping for yesterday in the end-ofseason Dubai Ladies Masters.
But it was almost certainly enough to ensure the Order of Merit on t he 2010 Ladies European Tour goes the way of the birdie queen from Mossel Bay.
Pace, who has won five times on tour this year, is on three-over-par 219 through 54 holes and sharing 29th place with Laura Davies, England’s former world No 1 and her closest challenger in the Order of Merit race.
Davies needs to finish first, second or third here and hope Pace makes nothing or next to nothing money-wise, if she is to overhaul the South African.
But since they are 11 strokes off the lead that isn’t going to happen and today, surely, will be a day of celebration for Pace as she is confirmed as Europe’s No 1 for 2010, and, in fact, the first South African to be accorded this honour.
