Eva Peron sings Cape Town’s praises
ANGELA Kilian is an actress who can be seen playing Eva Peron in Evita at the Theatre on The Bay in Camps Bay. She lives in Johannesburg but for the duration of the musical is staying in Bantry Bay. What do you like about that area? The view of the ocean is beautiful and it’s great because you can walk to the shops or to the beach. What is your best Cape Town secret? A Cocoa Classic smoothie from Newport Deli in Mouille Point – but you have to have it with soya milk, that’s the secret. Where is your favourite place to perform? I’m loving working at the Theatre on the Bay. The only problem is dragging myself past Camps Bay beach and into work. Where would you go for a romantic meal? There is this log cabin/restaurant a short train ride outside Oslo, Norway, near a magnificent ski slope, which has the most spectacular views over Oslo, an enormous log fire and the best hot chocolate ever. I’d like to go back there sometime. It’s magical. What is your biggest or most decadent indulgence and where would you get it? OK, being an organic vegan makes this one tricky to answer. I have a very sweet tooth, and I discovered these vegan desserts in a health shop in London recently that were raw toffee and banana with crushed almonds and coconut and other yummy things. It was so overpriced it was ridiculous but I think I ate one every day for two weeks and may have had more than one on occasion. I even bought two for my plane trip home. Oh great – now I’m craving that and no chance of satisfying the craving. What is your favourite outdoor spot in Cape Town? I love sunset picnics on Table Mountain. Where would you take a first-time visitor to Cape Town? Other than up the mountain at sunset, probably around Chapman’s Peak. The scale of the mountain on your one side and the vastness of the ocean on the other is breathtaking. What is your favourite drive in and around Cape Town? Starting at Mouille Point and driving all along the ocean, over Chapman’s and all the way around is really beautiful. Where is your favourite weekend getaway? I love going to Hermanus during whale season, but there are so many little spots all around Cape Town. What do you like to do in your free time? I practise and teach Kundalini yoga and I love going for earlymorning walks along Camps Bay beach and sitting on those massive grey boulders at Glen Beach for morning meditation. Where else do you like to do yoga? Cape Town has some wonderful yoga studios. I really enjoy Gururamdas Kundalini Yoga Studio in Park Road, Gardens. What makes Cape Town special for you? One minute you can be sitting on a mountain or in a forest and minutes later be on the beach or a wine farm or shopping. What don’t you like about Cape Town, or what would you like to change about it? The wretched wind. Which I have no control over. And of course Cape Town drivers. Which I also have no control over… so why complain? What was your first impression of Cape Town? Flying in and experiencing Table Mountain for the first time. I fell in love and didn’t think I could live anywhere else in the world. What is the quirkiest or most unusual place you know in Cape Town? Woodstock – with The Old Biscuit Mill, the antique shops, there is always something new to discover. What, in your opinion, makes Cape Town unique? It had a female mayor and you can see the difference. Describe your perfect Saturday or Sunday. Us perfor mers are usually doing double shows on a Saturday and Sunday so a perfect day would be having one of those off to spend with my partner and our animals.
