Snow wonderland

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - JELLYBEAN JOURNAL - JBJ REPORTER

HO-HO-HO. BRRRRRRR. It’s been snowing at Canal Walk, so wrap up warmly and try building a snowman.

There is also a giant tube slide down a snow ramp.

The snow is made by a company called Snow Productions which makes it from water using a crystallisation process. This is a form of flaked ice that is crushed to snow and blast frozen to form longlasting snow particles. They can make just over 16 tons a day at –8ºC while the pneumatic system can deliver the snow at a rate of a ton an hour.

There is also a children’s play area in the snow for building snowmen and an area for parents to watch their kids.

The winter wonderland will be in the Central Court from 10am to 10pm daily until December 30 (but it’s closed on Christmas Day).

Tickets range from R15 to watch to R60 for 20 minutes on the tube slide.

On December 19 there will be the Snowboarding Rail Jam Competition in the Central Court with South Africa’s top snowboarders battling it out to see who’s tops.
