Coal truth Down Under

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - COMMENT -

THE LAST paragraph of James Cunningham’s letter, “Nuke waste a longterm problem”, is a perfect summary of his ignorance of the real issue.

Australia and New Zealand use primarily fossil fuel for their power supply. May I suggest Mr Cunningham takes a trip away from his pristine environment to the blackened wastelands up north in the coal triangle, to get some perspective on “putting our descendants at risk”. He need not concer n himself with timelines from when the first city was built because if we follow Australia and New Zealand’s lead, as he suggests, we will accelerate global warming and Earth’s ultimate demise long before nuclear waste will. If that is not putting our descendants at risk, I fail to see what is.
