Local chefs bring home silver medals for South Africa
The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa spokesperson PART of the international Red Carnat i on Hotel Collection, The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa’s executive chef and team captain for the Culinary Team SA, Henrico Grobbelaar has proudly brought home three silver medals for South Africa from the Culinary World Cup at the 11th Salon International de la Gastronomie (International Gastronomy Show) in Luxembourg. One was achieved in the cold table presentation and one for the hot kitchen category, with another silver medal in the individual category for the pastry section by the Hotel’s pastry chef, Peter Gyorgyicsek.
The five-star Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa was the only property in South Africa, to have two of its chefs compete on the Olympic team. As a result of the intense training undertaken to get to this level, this bodes well for the hotel as the chefs are availed to the latest culinary and nutritional trends on the international cuisine circuit. Next year will see these techniques and trends incorporated into all the signature menus at The Twelve Apostles restaurants, such as the Azure, Café Grill, the banqueting department and even the room service menu – all be international cuisine showcases.
Competition was high, with 25 national, 10 national military, 10 national junior and 10 collective catering teams, as well as individual chefs and confectioners who competed in this outstanding culinary event.
