Man’s best friend gets his special day
TOMORROW dog lovers will be treated to a unique Wine, Dine and Dog Day at the Nelson Creek Wine Estate in Windmeul, just outside Paarl.
Held annually to benefit man’s best friend, events include various courses for dog owners and their furry companions to ensure a day of fun and plenty of exercise. The entrance fee of R20 is to raise funds for the local SPCA’S refuge for abused farm animals, especially horses.
Events co-ordinator Eunice Joubert said the estate boasted beautiful hiking trails along Nelson’s Creek, as well as manicured vineyards and majestic mountain views.
Physical events start at 8am while it is still cool. But there will be plenty to keep people and pest entertained throughout the day till festivities wrap up at 5pm. The courses are created by various designers, including Andile Bilula, South African cross-country course builder for horse events. He will build the dog cross-country race course.
A delicious range of food and wine will be on offer tomorrow. Entrance is R20 for adults, R10 for children, while dogs enter for free. But owners are asked to bring a toy, blanket, food or small donation for their less fortunate canine friends. An entry fee of R10 a competition will be charged.
The funniest, funkiest, ugliest and cutest dogs will win a prize, and there will be a dog-of-the-day prize. For details, call Colleen on 021 864 3726 or 082 905 9184, or visit www.wellingtonspca.co.za and www.nelsonscreek.co.za
