Stars a serious threat to Santos

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - SPORT - RODNEY REINERS

THE contrast in form between Santos and Free State Stars is staggering.

The two teams meet in a PSL fixture in Qwaqwa this afternoon (kickoff 3.30pm) – and Santos, for one, cannot afford to lose again.

The Capetonians come off a heavy 5-2 defeat to Sundowns at Athlone in midweek, while Stars beat Maritzburg United 2-0 away from home.

The Free Staters have picked up 10 of the last 12 points available to them and, crucially, are unbeaten at home so far this season (three wins and three draws from six matches). It’s a run of form that has taken Stars to third on the PSL log, seven points behind logleaders Supersport United.

Santos, on the other hand, are in the grip of a nightmare run of form. They are currently 14th in the 16-team PSL log, a point away from the relegation zone.

Coach Boebie Solomons and his men are under immense pressure and, today, nothing less than a solid performance and a positive result will suffice.
