Milnerton retirement village takes new approach to frail care
AQUACOR HAS designed a secure l i f estyle village for heal t hy, s e mi- ret i red and retired over-50s who still lead active lives in Corsair Road, Sandrift, Milnerton.
The one-bedroom units are priced from R725 000 and twobedroom homes from R899 000, says Aquacor’s new business director, Matthew Quinton.
“Aquacor has approached frail care and medical care facilities from a different perspective to the more traditional retirement villages,” he says.
“People are living longer and staying healthy and fit for longer, and the feedback we have is that buyers don’t want to be penalised by very high levies to carry the massive costs of frail care and medical facilities when they may never actually need them.
“We have contracted with the Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged’s ( CPOA) nearby River Glade centre to guarantee off- site frail care availablility at the nominal charge of R150 a month. This will guarantee a bed, will give five days’ free frail care a year and buyers will get a 10 percent discount on frail care facilities if they are needed.”
Sectional title units at the Avenues Village are being sold off-plan. All the units are at ground level, with covered patios leading to small gardens which can be enclosed for pets. An internal exercise track will meander alongside the indigenously planted avenues. The

homes are fitted with ovens, hobs and extractors.
The community meeting hall will include a medic’s room, a kitchen and toilet facil- ities, and there will be a coinoperated laundry.
Perimeter fencing will be monitored around the clock, and an intercom system will f acili t ate c ommunication between the homes, as well as the security gate.
Quinton says the Avenues is close to Century City and Canal Walk, Milnerton Medi- clinic and the beach, and within 10 minutes drive of the CBD.
Architect Arthur Quinton of Arthur Quinton Darryl Croome Architects says the style is a modern take on the classic Cape vernacular with open-plan living and kitchen spaces flowing from the front to the back gardens.
“We have worked hard to develop a design language that speaks to historical Cape styles without importing or copying European design features. Our designs take prevailing wind and yearly sun into account; every effort has been made to design homes that will be truly comfortable all year round,” he says.
The Avenues will be built in four phases and will have 54 units when completed. The first phase of 12 units is being sold off plan and construction will start in March. Completion is due by the end of 2012.
