10 men held for hunt­ing

TEN PEO­PLE, in­clud­ing a teenager, have ap­peared in the Makhado Mag­is­trate’s Court in Lim­popo on charges of il­le­gal hunt­ing, po­lice said yes­ter­day.

Bail was de­nied for the nine men, spokes­woman Lt- Col Ronel Otto said.

The case was post­poned to De­cem­ber 21.

Sipho Thovhakale, 23, Blondi Zwi­it­waho, 29, Jus­tice Muk­w­evho, 27, Lin­de­lani Nen­gudza, 20, Azwhihang­wisi Radzi­lani, 25, God­frey Man­ganye, 29, Win­ners Mhongo, 20, Enock Maluleke, 30, Mpho Siebane, 32, and a 16year-old boy ap­peared in court on Thurs­day.

Otto said po­lice dis­cov­ered the car­casses of seven warthogs, two jack­als, an ea­gle, and an aard­vark when they pulled over a ve­hi­cle out­side Makhado on Tues­day. The driver was ar­rested.

“Fol­low-up in­ves­ti­ga­tions led to the ar­rest of eight other men and the teenager in and around Mpheni vil­lage in the Elim district on Tues­day and Wed­nes­day.

“Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the pos­si­bil­ity that the men might be linked to other in­ci­dents of il­le­gal hunt­ing,” Otto said. – Sapa
