TEN PEOPLE, including a teenager, have appeared in the Makhado Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on charges of illegal hunting, police said yesterday.
Bail was denied for the nine men, spokeswoman Lt- Col Ronel Otto said.
The case was postponed to December 21.
Sipho Thovhakale, 23, Blondi Zwiitwaho, 29, Justice Mukwevho, 27, Lindelani Nengudza, 20, Azwhihangwisi Radzilani, 25, Godfrey Manganye, 29, Winners Mhongo, 20, Enock Maluleke, 30, Mpho Siebane, 32, and a 16year-old boy appeared in court on Thursday.
Otto said police discovered the carcasses of seven warthogs, two jackals, an eagle, and an aardvark when they pulled over a vehicle outside Makhado on Tuesday. The driver was arrested.
“Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of eight other men and the teenager in and around Mpheni village in the Elim district on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Police are investigating the possibility that the men might be linked to other incidents of illegal hunting,” Otto said. – Sapa
