ENG­LAND have named left-arm spin­ner Monty Pane­sar and bats­man Ravi Bopara in a 16-man squad for their three-test se­ries against Pak­istan in the United Arab Emi­rates start­ing next month. PAK­ISTAN were 132 for no loss in their first in­nings at the stumps in re­ply to Bangladesh’s 135 on the open­ing day of the first Test in Chit­tagong yes­ter­day. Mo­ham­mad Hafeez was un­beaten on 74 at the close with Taufeeq Umar (53 not out).

Gros­jean back to join Kimi

FRENCH driver Ro­main Gros­jean will re­turn to the For­mula One start­ing grid next sea­son as Kimi Raikko­nen’s Lo­tus team-mate, the former Re­nault For­mula One team an­nounced.

France want Bru and Lag­is­quet

FRANCE rugby coach Philippe Saint-an­dre has named Yan­nick Bru and Pa­trice Lag­is­quet as his as­sis­tants.

Bru played 18 Tests for France as a hooker and takes charge of the for­wards. Lag­is­quet, who scored 20 in­ter­na­tional tries as a winger, looks af­ter the backs.

Anelka - Chelsea or China?

SHANG­HAI SHEN­HUA ex­pects Chelsea striker Ni­co­las Anelka will make a de­ci­sion by Mon­day over whether to join the Chi­nese Su­per League club. It was re­ported that Anelka agreed to sign for two sea­sons with Shen­hua with the club of­fer­ing the 32-year-old $14.2m (about R116m) per sea­son and that he would join the team in Jan­uary.

Match-fix­ing probed in Turkey

A TURK­ISH court ac­cepted an in­dict­ment yes­ter­day charg­ing 93 soc­cer of­fi­cials and play­ers, in­clud­ing the chair­man of cham­pi­ons Fener­bahce, with match-fix­ing in a case which has sent shock­waves through the league.
