Monty and Ravi get call up
ENGLAND have named left-arm spinner Monty Panesar and batsman Ravi Bopara in a 16-man squad for their three-test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates starting next month. Pakistani openers in top form
PAKISTAN were 132 for no loss in their first innings at the stumps in reply to Bangladesh’s 135 on the opening day of the first Test in Chittagong yesterday. Mohammad Hafeez was unbeaten on 74 at the close with Taufeeq Umar (53 not out).
Grosjean back to join Kimi
FRENCH driver Romain Grosjean will return to the Formula One starting grid next season as Kimi Raikkonen’s Lotus team-mate, the former Renault Formula One team announced.
France want Bru and Lagisquet
FRANCE rugby coach Philippe Saint-andre has named Yannick Bru and Patrice Lagisquet as his assistants.
Bru played 18 Tests for France as a hooker and takes charge of the forwards. Lagisquet, who scored 20 international tries as a winger, looks after the backs.
Anelka - Chelsea or China?
SHANGHAI SHENHUA expects Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka will make a decision by Monday over whether to join the Chinese Super League club. It was reported that Anelka agreed to sign for two seasons with Shenhua with the club offering the 32-year-old $14.2m (about R116m) per season and that he would join the team in January.
Match-fixing probed in Turkey
A TURKISH court accepted an indictment yesterday charging 93 soccer officials and players, including the chairman of champions Fenerbahce, with match-fixing in a case which has sent shockwaves through the league.
