Bar­lady Buseka Ndzule says to make it she places straw­ber­ries in a glass and crushes them into a purée be­fore adding two shots of rum and then pas­sion fruit syrup, a lime mix­ture, mint and crushed ice. This is then stirred in the glass, given a splash of soda water and gar­nished with sea­sonal fruit.

The re­sul­tant cock­tail tastes richly of straw­berry. Although it has a thick tex­ture, I was able to pull the mix­ture of fruit flesh through my straw.

A col­league found it highly palat­able, if sweet, and less shock­ing than other more po­tent mixes. She de­scribed it as a well-bal­anced drink.

Ndzule says it is pop­u­lar with younger peo­ple.

The iconic orange-themed restau­rant in Kloof Street is a vibey, pop­u­lar choice for break­fast, lunch and drinks and the wooden benches on the pa­tio can get very full.

The restau­rant of­fers a view of the moun­tain and Kloof Street. Smok­ing is al­lowed out­side, at one of nine ta­bles.

Arnolds is open Mon­day to Fri­day, from 6.45am to 10.30pm, and on Satur­day and Sun­day, from 8am to 10.30pm. Happy Hour spe­cials are avail­able from 11am to 6.30pm through­out the week. – Wendyl Martin
