Cops quiz missing boy’s mom
THE MOTHER of the two-year-old boy who disappeared in Mitchells Plain on Thursday was taken in for questioning by police yesterday.
Spokesman November Filander said Zulpha Jacobs was being questioned “as part of the investigation” into the disappearance of her son Tariq. He refused to elaborate, other than to say that in missing children cases, “anyone can be a suspect”.
At the time of going to press last night, Tariq was still missing.
The Montrose Park child disappeared while shopping with his mother in the Town Centre. Filander said police were reviewing CCTV footage of the area, but had yet to get any solid leads.
Jacobs was reportedly standing at a stall looking at bags. When she turned around, Tariq was gone.
After looking for him, she reported the case to police.
The boy’s aunt, Tawgheeda Davids, said police searched the area around the stall and surrounding his home yesterday, but had found no sign of him.
“Its been a difficult and exhausting time for our family. Every time we get a call we think it’s about Tariq, but we’ve had no solid news.”
It is unclear what the child was wearing when he went missing. – Weekend Argus Reporters
