New year res­o­lu­tions

ON the cusp of 2012, Week­end Ar­gus re­porters JU­NIOR BESTER and WENDYL MARTIN asked lo­cal celebri­ties about their hopes and plans for the new year

busi­nesses un­der the um­brella of the cham­ber, thereby giv­ing smaller busi­nesses a stronger voice in the mar­ket, which is some­thing we des­per­ately need. I also want to get more in­volved with the phys­i­cal­ly­chal­lenged em­ploy­ees in the work­place, as it is an is­sue that is dear to my heart.

I do not make res­o­lu­tions. In­stead, I use this time of year to re­flect on the past year in terms of my goals, and what I have achieved.

My goals for the new year would be to build a city that ad­dresses rec­on­cil­i­a­tion, a car­ing city. Also, I will be look­ing to build more op­por­tu­ni­ties for the city so that it can ful­fil its po­ten­tial. Per­son­ally, I want to get back on track with my eat­ing habits. Dur­ing these past six months my healthy eat­ing habits have taken a back seat and I re­ally need to get back to eat­ing health­ier. Pop­u­lar SA hip hop artist best known for his sin­gle Show Dem (Make the Cir­cle Big­ger): My main new year’s res­o­lu­tion is to start go­ing to the gym. I also need to stop smok­ing so, hope­fully, I can achieve that in 2012.

Western Cape Trans­port MEC I have two res­o­lu­tions, one per­sonal and one pro­fes­sional. My per­sonal res­o­lu­tion is that from to­mor­row I will not smoke for a year. I need to be healthy to ful­fil my sec­ond res­o­lu­tion, which is to re­duce the provin­cial road death toll by 50 per­cent. We have achieved a 20 per­cent de­crease, and now we will be go­ing for 50 per­cent.

We have set up many dif­fer­ent pro­grammes to achieve this, in­clud­ing more road­blocks and check­ing ev­ery car en­ter­ing the prov­ince.

We are also mak­ing peo­ple aware of the cam­eras, as well as pro­vid­ing lo­ca­tions along the road where we will test for drunk driv­ing.

2011 Idols run­ner-up and 12th Av­enue front­man: My new year’s res­o­lu­tion is to work on my fit­ness and well-be­ing.
