New year resolutions
ON the cusp of 2012, Weekend Argus reporters JUNIOR BESTER and WENDYL MARTIN asked local celebrities about their hopes and plans for the new year
businesses under the umbrella of the chamber, thereby giving smaller businesses a stronger voice in the market, which is something we desperately need. I also want to get more involved with the physicallychallenged employees in the workplace, as it is an issue that is dear to my heart.

I do not make resolutions. Instead, I use this time of year to reflect on the past year in terms of my goals, and what I have achieved.
My goals for the new year would be to build a city that addresses reconciliation, a caring city. Also, I will be looking to build more opportunities for the city so that it can fulfil its potential. Personally, I want to get back on track with my eating habits. During these past six months my healthy eating habits have taken a back seat and I really need to get back to eating healthier. I also need to stop smoking so, hopefully, I can achieve that in 2012.
Western Cape Transport MEC I have two resolutions, one personal and one professional. My personal resolution is that from tomorrow I will not smoke for a year. I need to be healthy to fulfil my second resolution, which is to reduce the provincial road death toll by 50 percent. We have achieved a 20 percent decrease, and now we will be going for 50 percent.
We have set up many different programmes to achieve this, including more roadblocks and checking every car entering the province.
We are also making people aware of the cameras, as well as providing locations along the road where we will test for drunk driving.
2011 Idols runner-up and 12th Avenue frontman: My new year’s resolution is to work on my fitness and well-being. Since being given the opportunity to realise my dream of becoming a full-time performer, I have been going to gym to better prepare myself for my new hectic schedule.
