A jump in time!

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - NEWS -

APIA: Sirens wailed and fireworks exploded over Samoa as the tiny nation crossed the international date line and jumped forward a day in time.

The change effectively erased Friday, December 30, 2011, from the country’s calendar.

Samoans, gathered around the main clock tower in the capital Apia, cheered as the clock struck midnight on Thursday, December 29, and time jumped forward 24 hours to Saturday, December 31. The switch is also being observed by Tokelau and is meant to align the islands’ time with key trading partners in the region.

The jump means they will now be among the first in the world to ring in the new year. – Sapa-ap
