Man dies af­ter beer-drink­ing com­pe­ti­tion

MADRID: A 46-year-old Spa­niard par­tic­i­pat­ing in a beer-drink­ing con­test has died af­ter down­ing seven litres of the bev­er­age, Span­ish me­dia re­ported yes­ter­day.

The rules of the con­test, staged in Gea y Truy­ols in the south­ern Mur­cia re­gion on Wed­nes­day, re­quested that par­tic­i­pants drink as much beer as pos­si­ble in 20 min­utes.

Hos­pi­tal watch­man Joaquin G A won the com­pe­ti­tion with seven litres. But he then started vom­it­ing, fainted, and died on the way to hos­pi­tal.

The vil­lage fes­tiv­i­ties fea­tur­ing the event were called off. Gea y Truy­ols de­creed three days of mourn­ing. – Sapa-dpa
