It’s a little hefty on the vodka, using two full shots of Smirnoff.
Manager Attie van Wyk says they make the drink by blending the ingredients and then pouring it into a hurricane glass. This is garnished with mint. The drink is thick and chunky at the top and slushier lower down with mint flavours coming through.
Van Wyk says the Moscow Mango Mint is a popular evening drink all year round.
Cocoa Oola is perched high up Kloof Street, on a corner across from Hoërskool Jan van Riebeeck.
If it is warm out, sit on the outside bench fitted just below one of their windows. Inside, there are a few legless tables suspended by chains.
Cocoa Oola is open from 7am to 11pm, Mondays to Saturdays, and 8am to 10pm on Sundays. On Fridays, there’s a half-price special on draughts from 6pm to 7pm. – Wendyl Martin
