A CUTE new TV commercial has been crafted to introduce more South Africans to the new-generation John Dory’s Fish, Grill and Sushi family brand. It features an adorable four-year-old girl, who charms her dad into taking her out to dinner.

The 30-second ad, that’s a first for the fast-growing chain of 29 restaurants (with six more to come over the next few months), is the combined work of Sarel Esterhuizen of production house Wishbones; Marius van Rensburg, the creative director of ninety9cents, as well as the John Dory’s marketing team.

“It’s witty, charming, memorable and endearing,” says Allen Ambor, the executive chairman of the JSE-listed Spur Corporation that bought out the brand in its entirety just over a year ago, when it also took over the full management of the business.

“We’re expecting a very positive response from South Africans. It can be tricky working with someone so young, but she was terrific. Her appealing personality, and the love expressed by the person playing her father, give the ad a very engaging heartwarming quality.”
