Two shot dead in minibus

A 27-YEAR-OLD MAN and a woman in her twen­ties were shot and killed in­side a minibus taxi in Voortrekker Road in Parow yes­ter­day af­ter­noon. The gun­man, a 26-year-old man, at­tempted to run away but was ar­rested min­utes later.

“At ap­prox­i­mately 1.30pm, the sus­pect ap­proached his vic­tims,” said po­lice spokesman Lieu­tenant­Colonel An­dre Traut.

He was ar­rested by the West­ern Cape Fly­ing Squad, which was in the vicin­ity con­duct­ing crime preven­tion pa­trols. They re­sponded af­ter hear­ing gun­shots and found the two vic­tims al­ready dead. The mur­der weapon, a 9mm pis­tol, was con­fis­cated.

“The motive for the at­tack is unknown,” said Traut.

“The cir­cum­stances of the mat­ter are un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion and the sus­pect is due in court once he has been charged.”

On Face­book, lo­cals were warned to stay away from the area.

Johnny Jaftha said: “Po­lice ve­hi­cles ev­ery­where as well as po­lice he­li­copter cir­cling over­head. Gun shots ring­ing out… Avoid area if you can, please.”
