Fres­naye wall fall kills man

A CON­STRUC­TION worker died yes­ter­day when a wall he was work­ing on col­lapsed in Fres­naye.

The man – whose iden­tity has not yet been made pub­lic – was part of a team car­ry­ing out de­mo­li­tion and re­con­struc­tion work on the wall in Ocean View Drive when it col­lapsed.

Po­lice spokesman Lieu­tenant- Colonel An­drè Traut said the man’s death was be­ing in­ves­ti­gated.

The city’s dis­as­ter risk man­age­ment spokesman Wil­fred Solomons- Jo­hannes said an­other man, who sus­tained se­ri­ous in­juries, was taken to the Chris­ti­aan Barnard Memo­rial Hos­pi­tal by ER24. Three other men with mi­nor in­juries were taken to lo­cal hos­pi­tals.

Solomons said the city’s build­ing in­spec­tor would in­ves­ti­gate the in­ci­dent in terms of the Na­tional Build­ing Reg­u­la­tions and Stan­dards Act and the Depart­ment of Labour would also be in­formed.
