Bar: La Parada Address: 107 Bree Street Contact: 021 426 0330 Cocktail: La Pamplona Price: R55 Ingredients: Olmeca Altos tequila infused with vanilla and lemon grass, fresh blueberries, lemon juice, homemade vanilla syrup and Blueberry Red Bull. I THINK I’ve found my tequila favourite of the year and it’s at the new La Parada on Bree Street, that ever-buzzing tapas bar.
It was designed by Shaker School mixologist Vlad Klaic who says all the ingredients are shaken with ice and strained into a Collins glass. He then garnishes with fresh blueberries and a spiral of lemon zest.
If you don’t mind taking your tequila as a longer, fruity drink, this is for you.
Klaic says the drink was designed with the bar’s Spanish theme in mind.
“We all know the running of the bulls is a classic party and this drink will get you ready for a party night. Tequila and Red Bull have been known to cause blackouts,” he says.
Manager Luc Nel says the bar offers authentic Spanish tapas much like their branch in Kalk Bay.
Parts of the restaurant have a transparent glass floor, showing construction below. Nel says a club will be opening below early next month. On a hot day, get a seat at one of the large open windows that face Bree Street.
La Parada is open from noon every day. Their kitchen closes at 10pm Sundays to Thursdays, 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. They will have cocktail of the week specials soon. – Wendyl Martin
