‘Give generously in festive run-up’

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - NEWS - REBECCA JACKMAN

THURSDAY is International Day of Giving, and GreaterGood SA has launched a national campaign, Give SA, calling on all South Africans to give generously in the run-up to Christmas.

“Imagine if, at the flick of a switch, you could make sure a child got a decent education, or an elderly person was cared for with dignity, or a homeless person received a hot meal and the chance to learn some new skills.

“Or if picture books suddenly appeared in a community crèche, an abused woman had a safe place to go to, or clean water ran out of taps in an informal settlement,” said head of strategic communications for GreaterGood SA, Sophie Hobbs.

“By giving to non-profit and community organisations ordinary South Africans have the power to transform lives, one donation at a time.

“We are calling on everyone to give – business people, public servants, leaders, politicians, celebrities and, most importantly, ordinary South Africans who, through their giving, can help keep civil society independent, sustainable and able to continue serving the most vulnerable of our people.”

But the deadline for giving is not set in stone. You can give at any time, to any organisation of your choice.
