Kwaito star ‘won’t flee if granted bail’

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - NEWS -

RAPE accused kwaito star Brickz will not interfere with witnesses or tamper with evidence if released on bail, his lawyer said.

“There was an attempt made by the State to indicate that the accused would interfere with witnesses,” said Isaac Mokgopi at the musician’s bail application in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

“There is no factual basis that he will tamper with witnesses,” said Mokgopi.

He said Brickz, whose real name is Sipho Charles Ndlovu, lived in Soweto, had a stable family background, and was well known in and outside South Africa.

He argued that his client was not a flight risk, and was willing to hand in his passport and report to a police station.

Ndlovu has been in custody since November 1 for allegedly raping a 16- year- old girl in March.

In an affidavit submitted as part of his bail application, Ndlovu denied raping her, and indicated he intended pleading not guilty. – Sapa
