Diepsloot toddler placed in care

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - NEWS -

A TWO- year- old girl whose seven-month-old brother was found dead in Diepsloot has been placed under the care of social workers.

Police handed the toddler over to the social workers on Thursday because her grandmother was being investigated, Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said.

“There is a possibility of the grandmother being charged with child negligence.”

Mofokeng said the toddlers were in her care, and she was not supposed to give them to their mother, who often neglected them.

The baby was found dead and mutilated in their mother’s shack on Sunday morning.

Mofokeng said on Monday that they suspected rats bit off the baby’s foot while he was left alone in a shack.

Their mother and her boyfriend appeared briefly in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of murder and negligence.

They remained in custody, said Mofokeng. – Sapa
