MEN, WOMEN and children marched to take back the night, to say no to violence and to say no to rape. Last night’s march, from points in Gugulethu and Manenberg, served as a prelaunch to the 16 Days of Activism on No Violence Against Women campaign, starting Monday and continuing through December 10.

Sikhulule Monakali from Ilitha Labantu, organisers of the Take Back the Night event, said that they wanted to have a launch before the official 16 days campaign started, but one that involved the communities getting together.

The Garden Boyz motorcycle club came along to show their support and invited other groups of bikers to join., while Xolani Tshandu from Sonke Gender Justice brought along a group of men who have been training through the One Man Can outreach programme.

Tshandu added that Sonke would also be organising dialogues and outreach programmes in Klipfontein Road and surrounding communities throughout the 16 days of activism and beyond.
