Council provides details about builders’ holiday
THE BUILDING Industry Bargaining Council (Cape of Good Hope) has confirmed that the first day of the annual builders’ holidays for this year will be the 17th of next month and the industry reopens on January 13.
The duration of the builders’ annual leave is traditionally 15 working days, plus the three public holidays that fall within the leave period, and is legislated as part of the council’s collective agreement.
This year, the council again ne g o t i at e d a n a d d i t i o nal unpaid leave day, since the start of the working period would otherwise have been Friday, January 10.
The building industry shutdown period is determined by the council by no later than June 30 each year. Employees may agree with their employers to work during the annual leave period and will be paid the basic wage paid for any t i me worked d ur i ng t hi s period.
Security guards and other employees who work during this period will, by agreement with their employers, be granted leave, equal to the period worked during the annual close.
