Bar: Freddie’s at the Bantry Bay Suites Hotel Address: 8 Alexander Road, Bantry Bay Contact: 021 434 8448 Cocktail: Bantry Bay Apple Mojito Price: R95 Ingredients: Three quartered wedges of apple chunks, mint leaves, lime wedges, Bacardi white rum, Inverroche fynbos gin, crushed ice, soda water and lemon juice SHARING is caring. That’s why I think the new one-litre cocktail carafes are a good way to spend a Friday afternoon before going out for the evening.
The hotel bar, which opens out on to a pool area, is hosting a new cocktail evening called Fridays at Freddie’s, where you can share a carafe with your mates between 4pm and 7pm while listening to live music.
Food and beverage manageress Vanessa de Villiers makes the apple mojito by building it in the carafe.
A key ingredient is Inverroche Fynbos gin – a firm, delicious spirit that gives off a herby aroma.
It appears to be an attractive sharing treat, with bits of apple and mint floating about in the carafe.
It is served with salt-rimmed martini glasses to pour into and enjoy.
I do suggest pouring quickly to avoid the ice melting too quickly. Freddie’s is open daily from 11am. Aside from Friday’s at Freddies, there is also a tapas special: a platter for R65 which includes prawns, calamari, samoosas and rissoles. – WendylMartin
