Last five flats released at the Silo
Luxury development gets eco-friendly accolade
THE V& A Waterfront has released the last five apartments for sale in the No 2 Silo building, which overlooks the Grain Silo complex in the central plaza of Silo Square.
The No 2 Silo building is the V&A Waterfront’s first residential development in more than five years, since completion of the Marina Residence development. It’s also the first residential development in South Africa to be assessed using the Green Building Council of South Africa’s version 1 rating tool, achieving a four- star Green Star rating.
These last five units in No 2 Silo are from the developers’ own stock.
There are four 113m twob e d r o o med u n i t s p r i c e d between R4.295 million and R5.295m. A large two- or threebedroomed unit on the top floor of the development is also being released at R8.925m.
V&A Waterfront chief executive David Green says the Silo district has been earmarked for mixed-use developments of residential, commercial, leisure and hotel property, with the transformed Grain Silo as the central focus of a public plaza.
The V&A Waterfront and Jochen Zeitz recently announced a partnership to create a new cultural institution, housed in the 57m tall Grain Silo, which was built in 1921 and remains a skyline icon.
The V&A Waterfront is committing more than R500m to the development required for the establishment of the museum.
The renowned Zeitz Collection will form the founding collection of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa ( Zeitz MOCAA), which will focus on collecting, preserving, researching, and exhibiting cutting-edge contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.
The seven-storey No 2 Silo residential development on Silo Square consists of 31 one- and two- bedroomed apartments ranging in size from 86m² to 190m ² , on the water’s edge. Green materials used include low-energy lighting, high-performance glass that provides thermal and acoustic insulation and sustainable timber sources that are FSC certified.
No 2 Silo uses seawater as a cooling agent, a centralised solar-heated hot water system, and external solar shading, water-efficient showers, toilets and energy- and water-efficient kitchen appliances and energysaving devices.
It also has a website that allows homeowners to track and manage their water and energy consumption.
Other features include a communal roof-top entertainment and relaxation area with a gas braai, a 10 x 3.5m ozonated, solar-heated pool and water-wise garden – all with panoramic sea and mountain views.
As part of the 24/7 urban philosophy, No 2 Silo also features a 24-hour security system, private secure parking for all residents and manned secu- rity to attend to all management and security issues.
The Silo district is a fiveminut e wal k f r o m many amenities, including running routes of 2.5km and 5km, the V& A Market on the Wharf, Galileo Outdoor Cinema with picnics on the croquet lawn during summer, the Springbok Experience Rugby Museum, and a range of restaurants, shops and entertainment facilities at the V&A Waterfront.
A new Pick n Pay store has opened in Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre.
No 2 Silo residents may also use the canal for swimming, stand-up paddling and other non-motorised sports, and the district is close to the highway interchange and public transport routes.
