Gauteng bowlers beat WP... with bat!

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - SPORT - THEO GARRUN

GAUTENG beat Western Province in dramatic fashion in the unofficial final of the Khaya Majola Week in Durban yesterday.

Chasing 250 to win, at 189/8 Gauteng looked dead and buried. But then bowlers Jayden Broodryk and Kagiso Rabada came together and put on an unbeaten 53-run partnership to win the game with 1.1 overs to spare.

Rabada had a good all-round game – he removed the dangerous Clyde Fortuin for a duck in Province’s innings and finished with figures of 2/30 in his 10 overs – but it was his feat with the bat that really caught the eye. He rotated the strike effectively, giving Broodryk most of the batting, but still managed to hit one four and three sixes, including a mighty blow to win the game.

Grant Roelofsen’s good week continued – he made 63 for Gauteng to go with his 99 on Thursday. He made a total of 226 runs, at an average of 56.5, to finish on top of the run-scoring table.
