SA women to warm up for World T20 in historic Doha series
THE Pakistan women’s cricket team are to use the neutral venue of Qatar to host a tri-series with South Africa and Ireland.
The first- ever triangular women’s one- day and Twenty20 tournament will be held in Qatar from January 8-25 in Doha, making Pakistan the first country to introduce women’s cricket in this region.
“South Africa, Ireland and Pakistan women are participating in this home series of Pakistan as we want our women’s team to play as much cricket as possible,” said Pakistan Cricket Board interim chairman Najam Sethi.
Pakistan have been forced to play all their home cricket on neutral venues of United Arab Emirates since terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in March 2009 suspended all international sports in the country.
The tri-series in Qatar will help all three teams to tune up for the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh in March.
The women’s one-day tournament will start on January 10 with the final on January 17. All matches are day-night.
