Even fans find Miley’s video ‘gross and sick’

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - PEOPLE -

NEW YORK: When it comes to plumbing the depths of taste, it may have seemed that Miley Cyrus could sink no lower.

But even the singer’s own fans have joined the backlash against her latest raunchy video, branding it “gross”, “sick” and “pornographic”.

The former Disney star has been accused of “cynically exploiting” her hordes of teenage fans by releasing an Xrated video of herself on Christmas Day, simulating masturbation to the sound of her new single Adore You.

It prompted one of the UK government’s main advisers on online child safety, Children’s Charity Commission’s John Carr, to call for immediate action to ensure such videos have 18+ age ratings.

He said: “Lots of children and young teenagers will be browsing the internet with the tablets and mobile phones they have been given for Christmas.

“And one of the first things they will have stumbled across upon on Boxing Day is this explicit video. Instead of being freely available online it should be hidden behind age-filters.”

On Twitter, one fan said: “I love her but she is sexualising everything and it’s a little gross.” Another added: “It is literally just soft porn.”

On Thursday night the video had had more than 330 000 views on YouTube. And Pippa Smith of charity Safer Media called it a “new low” in teenage pop culture. – Daily Mail
