I WAS sur­prised by a sherry cock­tail this week. It crept up on me with tutti frutti colours and went , “Bam! I’m bright, but I still have a sherry af­ter-bite!”

My per­cep­tions of sherry cock­tails were of dark, murky, su­per sweet drinks, spruced with some ice and a sprig of mint.Lit­tle did I know that a bright, cit­rus cock­tail would be placed be­fore me.

This week was In­ter­na­tional Sherry Week, end­ing to­mor­row and in cel­e­bra­tion, The Very Sherry Show is on at Tiger’s Milk in Muizen­berg and Long Street and La Parada Bree Street dur­ing this month.

To­day the show, which fea­tures fla­menco dancers, tapas and sherry cock­tail pair­ings, will be at Tiger’s Milk Muizen­berg and next Satur­day at their Long Street bar.

Se­lected Mo­nis sherry cock­tails will be on spe­cial all month and you can en­joy a free glass of sherry with se­lected meals. One sherry cre­ation is the the Mo­nis Cob­bler.The drink is made by shak­ing the in­gre­di­ents and pour­ing them un­strained into a collins glass or a tum­bler. It is then gar­nished with fresh berries bal­anced on mint leaves.

Looks were de­ceiv­ing; this drink had clear sherry flavours con­trast­ing its bright ap­pear­ance. I’d sug­gest chew­ing on those berries later.

Tiger’s Milk’s Long Street edi­tion opened in July. It has a smok­ing bar and free WiFi. It’s open from 11am to 2am daily with its kitchen clos­ing at 11pm.
