I WAS surprised by a sherry cocktail this week. It crept up on me with tutti frutti colours and went , “Bam! I’m bright, but I still have a sherry after-bite!”
My perceptions of sherry cocktails were of dark, murky, super sweet drinks, spruced with some ice and a sprig of mint.Little did I know that a bright, citrus cocktail would be placed before me.
This week was International Sherry Week, ending tomorrow and in celebration, The Very Sherry Show is on at Tiger’s Milk in Muizenberg and Long Street and La Parada Bree Street during this month.
Today the show, which features flamenco dancers, tapas and sherry cocktail pairings, will be at Tiger’s Milk Muizenberg and next Saturday at their Long Street bar.
Selected Monis sherry cocktails will be on special all month and you can enjoy a free glass of sherry with selected meals. One sherry creation is the the Monis Cobbler.The drink is made by shaking the ingredients and pouring them unstrained into a collins glass or a tumbler. It is then garnished with fresh berries balanced on mint leaves.
Looks were deceiving; this drink had clear sherry flavours contrasting its bright appearance. I’d suggest chewing on those berries later.
Tiger’s Milk’s Long Street edition opened in July. It has a smoking bar and free WiFi. It’s open from 11am to 2am daily with its kitchen closing at 11pm.
