UN women un­der- se­cre- tary gen­eral and ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor Phumzile Mlam­boNgcuka said or­ange had been cho­sen to sym­bol­ise a fu­ture with­out vi­o­lence against women and chil­dren.

“Dur­ing the 16 days of ac­tivism, events are be­ing or­gan­ised in all parts of the world, and land­marks in towns and cities will be lit up in or­ange to draw global at­ten­tion to the is­sue and stim­u­late ac­tion,” she said.

The Min­istry of Women has also geared it­self up for the cam­paign.

Plans in­clude light­ing up Ta­ble Moun­tain in or­ange and white.

The moun­tain will be lit up for two hours on Wed­nes­day and on De­cem­ber 10 – from 8pm to 10pm.
